The expectation for Caleb Willians' playing time during 2024 NFL Preseason
Specifically, the Chicago Bears are in a rather favorable position regarding the overall number one Caleb Williams. Williams was already being announced as a starter at quarterback before he even played for the first NFL season; if you look at the team’s depth chart, you will see why.

Would Chicago Bears pick an injury-prone Caleb Williams in the preseason?
The only hope the Bears have this season is the team Williams joined is well built and he plays to expectation being a rookie. Thus, the Bears have to constantly try to provide a rookie with a practice and experience which he/she needs during primarily useless football games and, at the same time, avoid jeopardizing the player’s health.
Thus most veterans like a quarter back will sit for most of the preseason because they are vital barriers to the achievement of the goal. The Bears now reside in that tier and Williams is not a player that the Bears can just throw into the game for week one without any practice. How much time is given to him?
It is the Bears’ fortunate that the Hall of Fame game is scheduled this year, taking the place of the make-up game on the fourth place on Bears’ schedule. This was how the preseason used to transpire and, therefore, one could have looked to the past to determine how the Bears will conduct themselves.
The first game is generally a time to get the starters a drive or two to shake off the dust. During the week two, the team may proceed to the second quarter of the game, in a bid to establish several series of offense. Then, week three is the technical runthrough. The team follows this week’s preparation as they would prepare for a regular game. The starters usually takes a seat on the bench during the halftime. Finally, the week four is about the roster players lobbying for the roster space, the practice squad space, or any space in another team.
No team adheres to this sequence anymore with three games, and this has led to fewer encounters of starters against starters in the preseason. Yet, since the Bears have particular schedule, it would be reasonable to adhere to said schedule. They won’t have Williams playing against many starters in the preseason, but the team has to get Williams out there for himself & the offence.
Expect not to see him much in week one, another drive in week two, and his third preseason game should gives him work up until half time.
