Patriots extra points: Young receiver has ‘not a doubt’ he’ll make the team

Last week in the preseason game against Carolina, the top Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte caught three balls. In Sunday’s practice, he made three more in team periods, including two that came off as hits to Drake Maye’s closing hurry-up drive.

A year after getting released from the 53-man roster outright as a rookie with similar preseason and training camp shows, Boutte expects to turn out better.

Safety Maurice Boutte said it best after Sunday’s practice when he said: “ I feel like we’re all fighting for a job, but there’s not a doubt in my mind that I’m gonna make the team. ” “You know, I hustle, the coaches give me my minutes, right training, and strong work ethic to become part of the team. ”

While training, Boutte has practiced with the second and the third string offenses but other wide receivers include K. J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton and DeMario Douglas.

Last season, Boutte played in five games; during that time, he only caught two passes for 19 yards. In most games, the LSU product simply sat on the bench fully fit.

The workout Sunday was closed to the public but season-ticket holders heard Mayo and the team coordinators Alex Van Pelt, Demarcus Covington and Jeremy Spring before practice. According to ESPN, Van Pelt said of Drake Maye: “From him I think we have cleaned up his footwork … The really biggest thing I have seen from him, though, is that he has the ability to process quickly …, he can go from the first read to third read very quickly … He sees the field really well … ‘ The fans will be allowed to witness the next two practices of the Patriots scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. The Pats will have the Eagles join in at 10:30 a. m. on Tuesday for a worked practice which is frequently one of the highlights of the year. … Pro Bowl guard Chukwuma Okorafor was upset by how he played in the first preseason game Thursday, admitting he thought he was too tall. Okorafor, however, was voted out in the final roster then missed three practices’ snap counts before getting into game action and returned to his right-tackle role in the game and Sunday’s practice.
