When is the Preseason for the 2024 NFL finished?

The preseason games of the NFL are slated to end on Sunday 25th of August.

Since the NFL switched to practicing for three weeks before the start of the official campaign, each team is given a week’s break before the start of the season.

The Thursday night kickoff of the 2024 regular season is planned for the fifth of September when the champion of the past year, Kansas City Chiefs, is to face the Baltimore Ravens – the rival of the past AFC Championship Game.

Once the preseason comes to an end, NFL franchises will be expected to leave their roster to 53 players in a period of 48 hours. The NFL final cuts in 2010 are set for August, 27 and will conclude by 4:00 PM ET.

For many years, the league had three cutdown dates: that allows one window for the teams to set down their rosters from a maximum of 90 players, another window for the teams to make further cuts, and get their final rosters down to 80 and the last window which sets the rosters at a maximum of 53 players for the regular season.

Now there is only one roster cut down deadline, most of the cuts occur at the same time with the majority of the players being released to free agency.

How Many Preseason NFL Games Are There

Before the core NFL season was upgraded to 17 games in 2021, the league contracted each squad’s preseason from four games down to three.

The 2024 preseason schedule will encompass a total of 49 games (counting the Hall of Fame Game). Here you can find complete tables of the NFL preseason.
