'New standard' set for Michigan Football following 2023's success

Boys of Michigan football is a story of a team that failed to cross the final hurdle for many years. As for the year 2021, the Wolverines failed to beat Ohio State and were claiming the Big Ten title for the first time. For the first time after laying that dragon, U-M could not even win a College Football Playoff game let alone a national championship.

However, the 2023 season removed the last obstacles, and Michigan was considered capable of overcoming which many of them believed could never happen. The Wolverines go on and knock down the ceiling that had been put in place over the program and got to the trophy.

Now, Michigan has another enemy to combat: Lack of circumspection.

That is why the upcoming 2024 year will be interesting for this team of Wolverines to play in this association. U-M returns many outstanding players who help win this program’s first national title since 1997. However, that trend took a nose dive especially after the loss of head coach Jim Harbaugh and a significant number of core talents and staffs including J. J. McCarthy, Blake Corum, and Mike Sainristil and this has made many people ask if Michigan deserves its place at top of college football. That may be just what new head coach Sherrone Moore and the player leaders of ‘Team 145’ need to do to keep complacency out of the building.

When speaking about the feelings and moods of the team now, juniors tight end Colston Loveland referred to the award ceremony when the players were given their rings as champions.

‘Everyone who gets that ring, we are going to see that and be like alright we can’t settle for anything less. ’ So, obviously, the new standard is set,’ Loveland said.

The best teams, or teams that tend to win championships, are usually cultivated from player oriented programs. Team culture has to be learned and is normally taught by the elders of the program to the young ones. This is what Michigan’s upperclassmen have to do as the new 2024 freshmen and entering transfers come in. Now Junior cornerback Will Johnson has had the experience of entering the program in 2022 and then watching the 2021 team get presented their Big Ten championship rings.

“The dear memories I have are that of our freshman spring when we first arrived here, that team; them receiving their rings and us are just sitting there thinking to ourselves, we need to make sure we get our rings for ourselves as well,” he recalled. Now we have five or six rings, and it is insane to even think about, you just have to keep stacking and still have that same mentality like when we first began It’s just fundamentals; we can still get so much better and become way more efficient.

As we approach the year 2024, Michigan is not being looked upon is a national title contender this year. Not even a fourth straight winning of the Big Ten is expected from the Wolverines. Whether the above perceptions are receiving or creating a rightful impression or a disgraceful one is of no wise issue. What has meaning is what happens in the discussions, the concentration and the drive within Schembechler Hall.

After collecting thirty-eight rounds from the scattered boxes, Johnson told: “We’ve got to go get four more. ”

That is good starting point as it will help establish the foundation from which to launch the DVD campaign.
