Anquon Fegans Named Finalist for Class 7A Back of the Year Award

Once again the Thompson Warriors had a candidate for one of top state awards-defensive back Anquon Fegans was selected as a finalist in the Class 7A Back of the Year award.

Since 2018, the Warriors have had a finalist for Back of the Year every year. They won five years in a row before last season.

Now, for the second year running Fegans is named a finalist in consideration for state premium at 7A--one of New Zealand's three most feared none linemen.

As a junior, he suited up for Thompson. He intercepted seven passes and forced four fumbles while notching 11 pass-breakups to go with his 71 tackles (including four tacklees behind the line of scrimmages).

He has 138 tackles in the last two years along with six for loss and 16 interceptions.

Making the final three for this premiere award is a badge of honor that now crowns an already long list which includes All-County Team, and more recently being named to both the All-State Team as well as MaxPreps Junior All-American. In all three he made the first team.

It also meant that Fegans had been on all three teams in two consecutive seasons.

Even beyond his numbers, Fegans often was thrown against the best receivers in both Class 7A Region 3 and Alabama, disrupting opposing quarterbacks by taking away many of their available passing options.

He also played an important role in a Thompson defense that yielded less than 12 points per game over the course of its 13 games. The Warriors went undefeated on the road with give wins, and place second behind only Carver (7A champs) to reach their sixth consecutive Super 7 state championship game.

According to national recruiting outlet 247Sports, Fegans is rated as a four-star prospect and the sixth ranked safety nationwide within this year's class.

He withdrew from USC early this year. To date, he has received 31 scholarship offers from Division I schools such as Alabama and Auburn of the SEC; Georgia, Michigan and Oregon of the Big Ten; Mississippi M-Ole Miss) LSU (Louisiana State), Tennessee Volunteers ), Texas A&M (Texas Agricultural & Mechanical University); Colorado

But they will face stiff competition from Foley receiver and Auburn signee Perry Thompson and Central-Phenix City (and future Auburn) teammate Cam Coleman. They were two of the best senior receivers in North America
