After that, the Bobcats stumbled several times as they went through Sun Belt play and included in that — their last defeat of 77-31 at the hands of Arkansas State. Nevertheless, in the first year of the head coach GJ Kinne, who took charge of the Bobcats program, Texas State possessed the most entertaining G5 offense for the team and, therefore, provided certain carrying forward into the future.

And that causes some to think that Texas State could well be in the mix for the conference title this year itself.

After losing in the previous year, Texas State Football Should Have A Potent Offense Once Again.

Not only has Texas State a lot of talent coming back next year, this year they have one of the better G5 transfer classes.

For the Bobcats specifically, the starting quarterback will be Jordan McCloud who was just named Sun Belt player of the year. Playing for James Madison University as a G5 member last year, McCloud passed for 3,657 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions on a 68. 2% completion rate.

The ball is still out whether he can lead the offense of Texas State as effectively as TJ Finley who is now at Western Kentucky. Bobcats were first in the Sun Belt averaging 36. 7 points and 458. Only averaged 5 yards per game the last year’s season.

Offens e players return with cardinal importance in Bobcat’s, including Ismail Mahdi who scored a total of 1,331 yards, Sun Belt ranked third, and ten overall touchdowns on the ground. He also chipped in 275 yards and a score on 20 receptions. He was an All-American, All-purpose player of G5 members that he was; he did 22 kickoffs with the total of 563 yards and also the one touchdown.

Furthermore, the Texas-State has signed the former UTEP running backs Deion Hankins, and Torrance Burgess Jr. , Hankins was the fifth in the Conference-USA with 812 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns in the year 2023, whereas, Burgess was the eighth in CUSA with 620 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing.

At wide receiver, Texas State will be loaded. Joey Hobert is back after averaging 81 to finish third in the Sun Belt. 4 yards per game. In the year 2023, he played and also recorded 76 receptions for 895 yards with 8 touchdowns. Kole Wilson is also returning after he caught 66 passes for 747 yards and eight touchdowns, which was second on the team.

Also, G5 All-American, first-team All-Sun Belt kicker Mason Shipley returns for the Bobcats to hopefully score some points. Last season he was precise with all the kicker 15 of 15 of field goals.

The principal question will be whether the Texas State side can build on their defense or not. Bobcats were 10th in the Sun Belt in total defense that encompassed 397. 6 yards allowed per game and 12th in scoring defense that averaged at 32. 8 points allowed per game.

Still, they might be able to make some progress on that front, which is that side of the ball. They return players like defensive lineman Ben Bell, G5 All-American and the highest returning sack man in the Sun Belt of a season ago with 10. He also get 16 TFL and a total of 57 tackles. The Bobcats also signed other defenders from other FBS institutions.

Prediction of the Texas State Football match of the year 2024

I predict Texas State will win the Sun Belt Championship and will go Over 8. 5 wins.

Their ability to beat the Rice team in the First Responder Bowl after the close of the 2023 season means that Texas State was going to be one of my favourite to clinch the conference title. But then the Bobcats went and got better by necessarily assembling one of the best transfer classes in the Group of Five.

To my mind, there is not a single clearly prohibitive match on the Bobcats’ calendar. They should start the year with win against Lamar and Sam Houston that are NOT in the conference. It won’t be a piece of cake to defeat UTSA and Arizona State but it must be noted that the both matches will be played at home ground of Texas State and thus I do not see any reason why Bobcats can not won the both the matches.

If I were to even cast that Texas State could go 2-2 in non-conference play, the only Sun Belt game I think Texas State might not be favored in is on the road at Troy. Louisiana will also be rather challenging but that is also a home game for the Bobcats and therefore know that Texas State should triumph in that match.

There could be a letdown game in the middle of the season usually in the regular games and this could be a game on the road against South Alabama. But I can by no means envision Texas State getting beaten at the said stadium by Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Georgia State, Old Dominion or ULM.

I believe Texas State has the people to again have a potent offense, these are some of the Year of Offense 2018 Conference All-Purpose Standouts. As for Kinne return I expect the Bobcats will play much more consistently in 2024. Still, in my opinion, that would be a sufficient output for this densely populated team to clinch the Sun Belt Championship title.
