The latest of the Preseason Coaches’ Poll ranked Georgia as the first team in the nation. A similar fate is anticipated once the AP voting forum comes up with their first poll which is supposed to be out on Monday, August 12.

And then we can start putting official rankings beside teams on previews, score bugs and all that marvellous stuff.

For now the AP is seen as the official list for ranking teams since the College Football Playoff selection committee has not started selecting. Next, there are three storylines to be aware of before the said poll is up.

Any Surprise at No. 1?

The full expectation is Georgia will start the year as the consensus No. 1 team in the country. Kirby Smart has created a professional football team in Athens, and the back of the quarterback Carson Beck calms the hysteria.

But if anyone was to jump UGA the buckeyes of Ohio State would definitely come close to the list in a snap.

Whilst the Buckeyes did lose signal-caller Kyle McCord to transfer, they signed Kansas State’s Will Howard. He is yet another senior on the team that has been loaded with several respected, draft-eligible players who chose to stay in Columbus for the last year.

Ohio State came in a close second place in the Coaches Poll receiving 7 out of the 9 number one votes that were assigned but not to UGA. That, probably, will become a trend in the preseason AP Top 25 rankings for the leagues.

However, it appears as if Georgia will begin on the Receiving end.

Almost all Programs from Big Ten and SEC featured in Top 10

Top team, Georgia. Next up, Ohio State.

Following that pair, get ready to be submerged in plethora of programs from their counterparts in the SEC and Big Ten, respectively.

Among the other ten schools in Coaches Poll, the Big Ten schools comprise Oregon-3, Michigan-8, Penn State-9. The SEC also had a group of three: Texas (fourth), Alabama (fifth) and Ole Miss (sixth); while Missouri (11th) and LSU (12th) were also just behind.

As it should, the SEC should have more top over all five-stars in their Picks to the top 25, so should the future CBS SEC and CBS; nevertheless, both conferences will provide eight out of the ten highest AP teams as well.

Intrigue Starts at 17

I am sure we all agreed that 90 percent seems like such a small and distinctive number for such an important index.

The reason for that is simple: it is always the case that the offseason consensus solidifies when the full voting body forms it, there will invariably be several clear tiers of perception established.

Similar to the case with the Coaches Poll, Clemson, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah will either be ranked between the 13th and the 16th positions. That quartet lags Florida State, Missouri, and LSU but is ahead of Miami, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State.

Starting from there, there will be somewhat of fluctuation.

Texas A&M appeared at No. 20 in the Coaches Poll, but the 2023 runner, Washington University, was not ranked. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if that is reversed completely in the AP poll.

Will voters have a higher opinion of North Carolina State or the University of South Caroline? Which other ACC team will be ranking the top 25, much less Kansas, or Iowa?

These are the main narratives at the back end of the AP poll.
