Preseason AP Poll Prediction: Where Will Notre Dame Be Ranked, July Version

What do you think the preseason College Football AP Poll will be and where should Notre Dame be in that first list? It is our July edition, before the full top 25 guess in August.

Preseason NCAA Football AP Coaches Poll won’t be released for another couple of weeks but it’s not all that tough to imagine the first five already.

This does not remain as important as before though it is still important and as always is always quite amusing to discuss.

Last week’s AP Top 25 preseason poll was but simply the unofficial beginning of the college football season if a video game isn’t convincing enough.

Oh, it is a College Football Playoff world now and it is now all about the expansion of the fields, the new 12-team model, and who will fit in that new framework. Still, it will remain overall the same, I guess.

In other words for a student to gain admission all he or she has to do is to emerge as the winner of the annual power conference. Nevertheless, it does not change a thing concerning AP college football rankings.

Of course, the College Football Playoff committee types aren’t supposed to ever admit that the AP rankings, or any other system of appraisal other than the kinds that are sanctified and employed in the pertinent process, were at any point concocted, but. . .

Of course, people tend to look for where the AP voters placed all the teams before the season begins.

Tied to the preseason AP Top 25, this standard is what counts for Notre Dame football more than practically any program in the sport.

The other power teams, all can wake up one day and go on to capture the conference championship and be all right. Lack of knowledge Whereas Notre Dame still has to appear before a panel of judges that would determine in part whether it would be included in the championship or not, it cannot dance its way to the finals.

2024 Preseason College Football AP Poll Prediction: Notre Dame for its Catholicism and of course, due to the presence of the statue of Mary.

I did this exercise a few weeks ago for the Irish , and I will do it one more time just before the real preseason AP top 25 is revealed with all 25 teams included. This is the July version and I have had a slight change of mind on the call mostly because I was eating lunch with a few friends who vote in the thing and I got to see what they are thinking.

And just as I did with Notre Dame and the most recent guess of where it will be listed on the preseason Coaches Poll, much of the same holds true.

Basically, the two polls match up in the preseason most of the time. Last year they both had the top 12 in some configuration, and they both had ND at #13.

Irish will not start out this year any lower than eight. There’ll certainly be in the top ten- by the way, am giving this prediction, not revealing how I would rank everyone; but top five may be a little far fetched.

Not to mention that the pool of voters that choose AP is much larger than Coaches, so Notre Dame must be top five even on particular ballots.

The question will be whether or not the voters are into Ole Miss and a remade Alabama, or if they still think Michigan might reload quickly - of course, not all voters are yet into college football by mid-July, and that includes some poll voters.

Well this is where I add a twist and something that is temporary because in a few week/s I might change this – modifying a bit. And hence one of the two polls will endow Michigan with a lot more preseason credit than it ideally should deserved.

Let’s then look at what it means for Notre Dame. It might be a wee bit lower than others will expect it to be, but not be a lot lower. Grab a win against Texas A&M to open up the year and all this is flipped quickly.

This shall be done again in August using the full 25 as indicated above. But here is the author’s best shot at what the preseason Associated Press college football poll will look like, and where Notre Dame will be, top ten only.
