The rookie signal-caller and the number 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft showcased his throwing, rushings and command in organisational skills during a game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday that was won by the Broncos 34-30.
After Jarrett Stidham took a seat on the bench, Nix, threw the ball for 125 yards, connecting on 15 of 21 passes and scored a touchdown while his rating was 102. 3. Nix was involved in five drives for the Broncos with four of them scoring.
“I thought we ran the ball efficiently,” Nix said of the performance on the ground during the game that ended their losing streak, “Made some good plays in the pass game. Converted some third downs. Got points when we needed to,” Nix continued speaking to the media after the game. “Second half, I was happy to be going into the half with points and coming back out with points, that I felt was a good point in the game. Feel like overall, we did a very good job and that was big team win. ”
Nix arrived in the latter part of the first quarter, but even then, he went through two broken plays on his first two attempts. His first completed pass was for 22-yards to wide receiver Courtland Sutton on third and 10 in the first quarter. The drive came to an end with a 41-yard field from Will Lutz. Marvin Mims of wide receiver caught Nix’s first NFL touchdown on a short pass on the third down, goal at the Colts’ one-yard line. Even on the handoff he feigned to pass and retrieved the ball sharply making a laser like pass to Mims.
Below is how Nix was quoted saying it; “It was a nice play by Marv,” Nix told his team announcer’s” he did a good job of getting to the corner. “That play was well worked out and we have been rehearsing and running through that play quite a lot. ”
Nix steered the Broncos to two touchdowns and two field goals during five drives. As anticipated, he was reasonably accurate on the passing and demonstrated further in quick passing. Nix made some plays with his legs with elusiveness to extend plays.
‘It’s big,’ he said, ‘when plays breaks down. ’ You always want to extend plays and for the offense, and you never know when the time will come when you have to do it,’’ said Nix. “So it is always good to train it and it is always good to have. ” ’’
Denver coach Sean Payton didn’t want to directly anoint Nix, so he talked positively about Nix, Stidham, and Zach Wilson after the fight. To be fair, the first belonged to Nix, and while playing against primarily reserves, Nix looked very good.
While speaking to the press, Nix said, it was good to be out there and throw some completions. Just get out there and train and win. ”
